Furuichi Fanart Round-up [pixiv]

Wow, yesterday was Monday (the day Jump goes on sale), and it looks like the Furuichi fangasm train is back.  Chapter 204 is a great chapter, so I’m really happy that the Japanese readers (well, a fraction of them, anyway) love the arc.

Here are some amazing Furuichi-centric fanart people have done recently:

バブ203 Takamiya centric log with speculations on how the rest of the arc will play out.

もしもの聖セントクリスマス Oga/Furu. This is a flat out funny comic of Furuichi attending Saint-Sent Christmas while crossdressing

バブ204に滾った結果がこれだよ… Furuichi putting on his “come at me bro” face.

古市くん中心バブ204感想妄想 Furuichi-centric log with some Jabber/Furu at the end.

バブ204感想※本誌ネタバレ Another Furuichi-centric log with some Heca/Furu and Oga/Furu at the end.

べるぜ系落書き系 This whole log is A-MA-ZING. Its mostly Oga/Furu but the last picture in the set is an epicly drawn Furuichi & Hecadoth. Seriously, check it out!

Something I’ve noticed is that people are tagging their chapter-specific fanart under the following:

バブ203ショック     バブ204ショック

So check those tags out too!

Who knows, there might be one for chapter 205 when it comes out…?

aka things I wish would happen in the series

I’m sure Tamura keeps a list of things fandom expects from him and gleefully crosses one off every time he does the exact opposite.

salaryman-san replied to your photo: Its a dick joke. I couldnt find an actual…

chin is short for chinko, which is penis. so its definitely a dick joke of sorts (pretty sure there was a guy in Gintama who was also nicknamed Takachin. Chinpira also means (literally) an apprentice yakuza, or just hooligan / punk

Ahh, thank you so much!  Yes, I remember Takachin on Gintama, lol.  In Beelzebub, Furuichi has another nickname which is also a dick joke, poor guy (Furuchin).

Wow Tamura sure is literal when he names his schools!

It’s a dick joke. I couldn’t find an actual translation to back this up, but it is most probably a dick joke. (Japanese speakers, please help me out!)

Takachin is spelled as “たかちん” in the manga.  ”たか” comes from the first part of Furuichi’s first name “Taka”, and “ちん” is a slang term for  penis.  (This is why dick jokes come up during the Okinawa arc; Aiba’s school is known as Chinpira High.)

The “Taka” in Takayuki means something like, precious or noble.  So combine “Taka” and “chin” you get a nickname along the lines of “great dick”.

D’aww I love kindergardener Beel!  Oga looks appropriately weary too.

Found this on /a/, regarding the translation of this chapter:

Actually ‘Tactician’ was translated from the same word they use for General or ‘resourceful general’: 智将 (chishou).
The goon was making fun of him by using 恥将 (chishou) which sounds the same but the kanji meaning is ‘shameful general’
Here Furuichi is more literally saying ‘don’t get the character wrong, I’m the General’.
And next page he gets the respect he deserves when Hecados calls him 智将どの (chishou-dono).

Woah, Furuichi’s dialogue was hardcore.

i made another thing

And Furuichi’s like, LEAVE ME OUT OF THIS *swish*

I remember laughing a lot at this part!

As much as I was disappointed with the anime, the voice acting was spot on, and they kept a lot of the funny faces too.

Furuichi: Character development done right…and kept

fabelyn:

My favorite arc by a mile in Beelzebub is the Tissue arc. Why? Because, among other things, it got a character (Furuichi) that had been relegated to stupid comic relief that consisted of every other character in the manga bullying him and treating him badly…only to show us that he wasn’t just that cliche gag character, that he had depth and he felt deeply about the bullying he was suffering, to the point of suicide. He also felt useless and uncared for, both things turning out to be untrue by the end.

But of course, he’s not the main character and this is a gag manga, so the focus after that arc quickly shifted and his problems were pushed aside.

This made me ask myself: will Tamura remember to keep this development?  To remember to stop the strong bullying, keep Oga and Furuichi as really best friends, make Furuichi remember he does have his importance?

Well…this chapter answered it. Here’s why, with images:

Let’s see how he was in the tissue arc:

image

Huh, suicidal, feeling that noone liked him or apreciated him.

Now let’s look at how the Pillar Squad, specifically Hecatos, treated him:

image

Calling him brat, in the next page he’ll complain about being shackled to Furuichi etc Basically, no respect.

Now let’s look at the current chapter:

image

Furuichi now acknowledges his importance to the Oga group.

And what about Hecatos? Well…

image

Oh hey look, no more “brat”. Now he’s calling Furuichi by a respectful title, “Tactician”.

So thank you Tamura, for keeping consistent in your character development of Furuichi, this is awesome.

This! Furuichi has truly grown, and I can’t wait to see what this arc has in store for him next.

just a thought but

0blue-bird0:

how cool would it be if Furuichi had been able to pick Hecadoth on purpose?

like, he would definitely need someone Agiel’s level or higher to fight these guys, but Behemoth takes too much of a toll on his body (and i’m guessing that he wouldn’t appreciate being summoned like this again) so he’s able to settle on someone in the middle

since we’re in the middle of an arc that just kinda explains how all of these sorts of contracts work i think it would be pretty awesome if Furuichi managed to become good at forming contracts with stronger demons (preferably without the harmful affects of the tissues) and was able to pick the demon rather than get whichever one happened to appear.

I think he did chose Hecadoth on purpose.  Well, maybe not entirely, but it seems to suggest that way.  Also, Agiel said “call on me again!” When she left him.  So its very possible.

As much as I loved seeing Furuichi with Jabberwock, and Furuichi with Agiel, Hecadoth is kind of a safer option.  Both were once fodder!
